Individual Psychotherapy For
Trying to Conceive & Infertility
You've wanted this for a long time. Maybe longer than you have told most people.
You knew it might not be easy. You didn't know it would feel like this — like every month is its own cycle of bracing and hoping and doing the math and waiting and then starting over. Like this is hard for you & easy for everyone else, even though you know that's not true. Like your body is doing something wrong, even though that's not what "unexplained" means.
You know a lot by now. You've read the forums, been down social media rabbit holes, asked the questions. You probably understand more about reproductive medicine than you ever expected to. None of that makes the two-week wait shorter.
You may have experienced:
● Trying figure out if this is your fertile window and the best time to try…are you are ovulating or not…is that cervical mucus?
● Two transfers in, and there's already a voice that says it's never going to happen
● The crush of getting your period after a cycle you let yourself feel hopeful about
● Other people's pregnancies landing like a gut punch, even when you love them, even when you're happy for them
● The baby shower you got through. The group chat announcement you had to put your phone down for.
● Googling things at midnight that don't make you feel better
● Going through the motions at appointments, asking the right questions, doing everything right and still not being able to control what happens next
● The fear underneath all of it: what if we don't get to have this?
That last one tends to show up early. You don't need to be running out of options for it to already feel like the worst possible outcome. I hear it from people who still have embryos, who are just starting treatment, who haven't even seen a specialist yet. It's there. We don't have to pretend it isn't.
What we do together
People come to me with different questions about how this works. Sometimes they want to know what EMDR is, or what techniques we'll use. More often, they just want to know: can you actually help?
Here's what I can tell you. I'm not the person who's going to get you pregnant. I’m the person who can help you get through this.
Because you're managing a lot. The appointments and the information and the decisions that don't have a right answer. The medical team that's excellent at the clinical piece and doesn't always have time for much else. The people in your life who want to help and keep saying the wrong thing. The grief that doesn't have anywhere to go because you're not supposed to be grieving yet.
I often see clients more frequently than most of the other people on your care team, which means I'm frequently the person you can actually think out loud with. About what your doctor said and what it means. About how to walk into the next appointment. About how to stay in your life, your relationship, your work, & your friendships, while this is happening to it.
Some clients want concrete support: how to prepare for a procedure, how to handle a conversation, how to manage the anxiety of waiting. Some need to process what's already happened before they can think about what comes next. We go at your pace and figure out what's most useful as we go.
What changes
Not the outcome. I'm not able to promise you that.
What I can tell you is what my clients describe: being able to tolerate the hard parts without being demolished by them. Getting through a month of trying or a cycle that didn't work and still being able to get up the next day. Having a conversation with their partner that isn't just logistics. Feeling something other than dread when they think about the next step.
The fear doesn't disappear. But it stops being the only thing.
And whatever happens, whether this ends with the family you are hoping for or with a different life than the one you planned, you don't have to get through it alone.
